I had so few of these, when the first 2 THOR Masterworks came out, I was thrilled. I especially liked how they included the "Tales Of Asgard" episodes as well. I thought it must have been really frustrating for anyone who bought the 2nd THOR book ("Vol.26"-- it's so easy to see why I hate this single-numberingstupidity) that it ended on a CLIFFHANGER. The 3rd THOR book took what felt like forever to come out! Ironically, "The Power Of The Thunder God", which opened the 3rd book, was the very 1st THOR story I ever read, way back in a MARVEL TALES reprint. I've been buying original THORs a few ata time over the last few years, trying to plug the gaping holes in my collection. I've tried focusing on the ones I don't have as reprints, but sometimes the local stores really run short of anything by Kirby. Last week I wound up picking up JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #111! So now I have 3 different printings of the same story. Guess what? There's a full-page LOKI pin-up by Kirby that DOES NOT appear in the Masterworks-- and that book came out just last year!!! What is Marvel's problem?? On a side note, seeing Chic Stone's inks over Kirby is always a thrill-- seeing them in the original printing (not blurred by bad reprinting) is even better. On the other hand, Vince Colletta's inks on TOA in the back are almost not there this time. It wasn't that the reprint in the Masterworks was bad-- this particular episode looks more like an ancient manuscript than usual (heehee). Oh well... IP: Logged |
